If you’re a fan of classic Hollywood, then you may be familiar with the name Carleton Carpenter. He was a Broadway actor and Debbie Reynolds’ co-star in 1950’s. The two met while filming the movie “The Affairs of Dobie Gillis” and soon fell in love. They were married on July 16, 1954, and went on to have one child together. Sadly, the couple divorced in 1960. Carpenter later passed away in 1990 at the age of 69.

Though their marriage was short-lived, Carpenter and Reynolds remained close friends until the end. In fact, it was Reynolds who helped him get his start in Hollywood. She introduced him to her agent, who got him an audition for the film “The Affairs of Dobie Gillis.” He landed the role and the rest, as they say, is history.

Carpenter was not only an accomplished actor, but he was also a talented musician. He wrote and sang the theme song for the film “The Unsinkable Molly Brown,” which starred Reynolds. The two continued to work together throughout their careers and remained close friends until Carpenter’s death in 1990.
